Andrew Lewer was born in 1971, and attended school in Ashbourne before going on to university first at Newcastle then at Cambridge. He was elected to the European Parliament representing the East Midlands in May 2014. Prior to this he was the Leader of the Derbyshire County Council Conservative Group. He was awarded the MBE for his services to local government after Leading Derbyshire County Council from 2009 to 2013.
